Who this is for
Landscape installers, lawn and garden crews and small outdoor-services businesses that quote beds, soil or mulch volume, plant counts, travel and disposal, and bill each visit or project.
Scope to settle before you price: Separate recurring maintenance from installations. Price beds, soil or mulch volume, plant counts, travel, equipment, disposal, and visits.
A mulch estimate needs bed area and depth. Keep installation scope separate from recurring service quantities and frequencies.

Worked example: mulch volume for a bed
Fictional bed. Mulch is ordered by volume, so the estimate needs bed area and depth. Convert to cubic yards by dividing cubic feet by 27.
| Line | Basis | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Bed area | Measured | 400 sq ft |
| Depth | 3 inches = 0.25 ft | 0.25 ft |
| Volume | 400 × 0.25 | 100 cu ft |
| Cubic yards | 100 ÷ 27 | 3.70 cu yd |
| Order quantity | Round up (ordering allowance, labeled) | 4 cu yd |
| Mulch cost | 4 × $45.00 (fictional price) | $180.00 |
Delivery, spreading labor, edging, travel and disposal are separate lines. Quote installations and recurring services as different scopes.
